An interview with Ms. McGrath
Where did you attend college?
I went to DePaul University, Chicago IL for my undergraduate degree and University of Illinois in Chicago for my Masters degree.
What is your favorite thing about teaching?
I love seeing the changes in children throughout the year, a lot of academic, emotional and intellectual changes can happen in the course of a year!
What do you like about teaching at St. Viator?
I have felt so welcomed by all the faculty, students, and parents. It truly feels like a family here.
What is your favorite color?
Bright green
What is your favorite food?
All food! I have never been a picky eater.
When is your birthday?
My birthday is October 16th.
What is your favorite drink to get your morning started?
I usually just have water to start my day. The kids wake me up when I get to school so I don't need coffee!
Do you have any hidden talents?
I recently signed up for a volunteer program that does magic for children in hospitals. I'm not a pro yet, but eventually I will be able to do several magic tricks. Stay tuned!
Do you have any hobbies?
When I was in high school, I joined every after school club they had to offer. I guess my hobby is having lots of hobbies. I like to try everything!
Anything you can tell us about your family or pets?
I grew up in Chicago and most of my family still lives here. I like it that way because I get to see my nieces and nephews all the time.
What is something you wish the parents of your students knew?
I am very passionate about my job and put a lot of energy into making sure the students are getting the most out of their education.
What is the most helpful thing a parent can do for your class during the school year?
Make sure your child knows the importance of putting effort into schoolwork, it sets good habits for life!
What professional accomplishment are you most proud of?
I recently graduated with my Masters of Education in Measurement, Evaluation, Statistics and Assessment.
What is your favorite book?
My favorite book to read with a class is The Giver, because it has a lot of great discussion material. My all-time favorite book is To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee.
Who is your favorite author?
I like a lot of different authors. Currently I've been reading books by Jo Nesbo, who writes about murder mysteries set in Norway. They are very thrilling!
If you weren’t a teacher, what profession would you choose?
When I was young, I wanted to be a comic book artist or costume designer. However, looking at it now, I would probably still be something in the sciences.
What extracurricular activities are you involved in at St. Viator?
I am excited to continue the Science Fair and am interested in moving forward with a STEM Club.

My parents are my heroes for supporting me in everything I do.
