Welcome to Ms. McGrath's Homeroom!
5th grade is a fun and exciting year!
This is the first year that students will switch to 5 different teachers throughout the day.
We have many opportunities for differentiation including Title 1 classes for reading and math, Junior Great Books, and leveled group work built into the curriculum.
Here is what each day looks like for 5th grade:
Ms. McGrath's Teaching Philosophies
Hard work will get you anywhere in life.
Memorizing facts can help you to complete things more quickly, but it is not the purpose of education.
One of the best ways to learn something well is by correcting your own mistakes. Try something even if you are unsure if you are doing it right, then pay attention to how you can improve. This means feeling comfortable in your learning environment.
No child has the right to take an education away from someone else.
Motivation increases when students are praised for their accomplishments as opposed to being reprimanded for their mistakes.
